What Is a Binary Bit Position?
Each digit in a binary number occupies a bit position. Starting from the
rightmost bit, positions are normally numbered from 0 upward.
How to Find a Bit at a Position

The rightmost bit is position 0.

Each step to the left increases the bit position by one.

Least Significant and Most Significant Bits
The rightmost binary position is called the least significant bit, or LSB. It is always position 0 in this calculator.
The leftmost bit of the entered width is the most significant bit, or MSB.
Why Does Position Counting Start at Zero?
Binary position numbering commonly starts at zero because the rightmost bit has a positional weight of:

Starting with Position 1
